SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Mulilo and our partners are committed to the sustainable development of South Africa.

As a proudly South African organisation, we have invested in our communities and are working to establish a foundation for success and longstanding sustainability.  Mulilo envisions this to be in the form of: skills training, access to reliable energy, education, health care and increased infrastructure and enterprise development.

Mulilo & Partners focus on Education

50 Bursaries from the Mulilo Bursary Program were awarded by the Minister of Energy to grade 12 learners from various schools in the Northern Cape to study Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and other fields of study for the 2017 year.

The Minister of Enery- Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson and the Premier of the Northern Cape – Ms Sylvia Lucas formally awarded the bursaries to the grade 12 learners  (class of 2016) in Emthanjeni Local Municipality, De Aar, Northern Cape. The event was an opportunity for Mulilo and the Department of Energy to engage learners about the Renewable Energy Program and how it contributes to economic development.

Phillipstown Draadkaar (wire-car) Festival

The festival is an annual event held in Phillipstown, and is considered a hightlight of the Northern Cape. Community members, municipal services, schools, local and national corporate sponsors all got involved on the day to celebrate equality in diversity by racing wire cars through the streets in Phillipstown.

Prieska Ithemba Bursary Fund

Many communities in South Africa suffer from the lack of robust education systems. In realising transformation, we have identified education, training and development as  vital tools to uplift the lives of the people of Prieska.

Education is the key to empowering our youth and it is therefore fitting that we focus on opening up study opportunitites to the youth of Prieska. The Prieska Ithemba Bursary Fund facilitates access to South Africas tertiary institutes by providing funding for those who would not otherwise be able to afford it.

Alcohol and Drug Abuse in the Siyathemba Municipality

The Alcohol and Drug Awareness workshop is part of Mulilo Prieska PV and SunPower’s process of hope and healing for the community at large. We believe that we are in a unique position to assist those who suffer from addiction in our communities and provide support and help by establishing a culture of awareness and caring. The workshop encourages the community to know the basics about addiction, learn about the pain and confusion it causes family members, and discover the role prevention can play to help those who are suffering.

Back 2 School Campaign

The Back to School Shoe Champaign aims to reform the lives of the underprivileged in Siyathemba Municipality by providing primary school children with school shoes. Our hope is to remove any barrier that might be an obstacle for kids to be educated. No child should be ashamed of attending school merely because they don’t have shoes.

It is precisely these genuine smiles that have encouraged us to continue giving back to this community.

Sports for Development

The Sport for Social Development initiative, partnering with DreamsFields, is an initiative that uses sports to bring about social change. This program uses sport as the medium to teach children important life skills which, in turn, help to improve academic and sporting performances.

Reading Workshops

Longyuan Mulilo De Aar wind projects partnered with Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en Monument (ATM) to awaken the love of books and reading in De Aar and Phillipstown. The initiative is aimed at schools or communities in rural areas where there is a need for books and a shortage of reading facilities. The program is curriculum based and focuses on a variety of different learning outcomes. It uses reading as a means to improve listening skills, talking skills and critical thinking/reasoning.
